About GBV AoR:

The Gender-Based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR) Coordination Team, based in Geneva, plays a crucial role in global level coordination for Gender-Based Violence in emergency contexts. With 29 activated clusters in emergency situations, GBV AoR collaborates with UN and international humanitarian agencies to enhance the effectiveness and accountability of humanitarian responses, focusing on prevention, risk mitigation, and response to all forms of gender-based violence. The GBV AoR, led by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), operates within the Protection Cluster as an inter-agency body under the IASC cluster approach.

Position Overview:

As a Communications Intern within the GBV AoR Coordination Team, you will work closely with the GBV AoR Global Coordinator and collaborate with Communication and Programme colleagues. Your primary responsibilities will include supporting various aspects of GBV AoR’s activities, including field support, partner communication, and knowledge management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Management: Assist in maintaining and updating the GBV AoR website with the latest resources, upcoming events, and field operation information.
  • Social Media Engagement: Populate and manage GBV AoR communication channels, including YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.
  • Monthly Updates: Support the development of Monthly Updates on GBV AoR activities across different regions and contexts.
  • Meeting Coordination: Organize, schedule, and attend GBV AoR Monthly Calls, meetings with core members, and regional teams.
  • Documentation: Document discussions and decisions made in meetings and calls, and share associated reports with relevant stakeholders.
  • Data Gathering: Assist in gathering data, monitoring results, and disseminating information on emerging issues related to field operations.
  • Guidelines and Tools: Support in updating GBV AoR’s guidelines and tools as needed.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Recent graduate or currently enrolled in an advanced university degree in social sciences, international development, or related field, or active enrollment in a Master’s programme.
  • Experience: Preferably possess field experience in humanitarian settings. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Sheets.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is required, knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
  • Competencies: Strong communication skills, ability to draft communication materials for different audiences. Proficiency in managing website creation apps and basic graphic editing skills are desirable.

Financial Aspects:

Interns receive a stipend in line with UNFPA policy. Other costs associated with participation must be assumed by the nominating institution or the interns themselves, including living expenses, accommodation, and travel. Medical insurance is mandatory for the duration of the internship.
