About the Role

As an Intern or Volunteer at FIDH, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the organization’s advocacy efforts at the heart of the European Union. Under the guidance of the FIDH representative to the EU, you will be immersed in various tasks aimed at advancing human rights agendas through research, analysis, and advocacy strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on human rights issues, analyze policy implications, and contribute to the development of advocacy strategies aligned with FIDH’s mission.
  2. Drafting and Documentation: Prepare thematic notes, syntheses, and memoranda for internal use. Assist in drafting advocacy letters, press releases, and position papers to influence policy decisions.
  3. Representation and Engagement: Attend and occasionally represent FIDH at advocacy meetings, conferences, and seminars to articulate human rights concerns effectively.
  4. Policy Monitoring: Monitor developments in national, regional, and international policies, legislation, and practices, focusing on EU agendas to identify advocacy opportunities and crisis situations.
  5. Support to Human Rights Defenders: Organize and accompany human rights defenders for advocacy missions before EU institutions in Brussels, ensuring effective representation and support.
  6. Event Coordination: Assist in organizing and executing meetings and events related to human rights advocacy initiatives.
  7. Administrative Support: Provide organizational and administrative assistance, including database management, website updates, and document distribution.

Profile Requirements:

  • Strong understanding and interest in human rights issues.
  • Proficiency in EU policies, systems, and standards with a background in law, international relations, or political sciences.
  • Excellent command of English (both oral and written) and intermediate level of French (oral and written).
  • Proficient research, analytical, and drafting skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to human rights and enthusiasm for working in an international, challenging environment.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Internships are unpaid but include full reimbursement for local transport and a daily allowance for lunch.
  • Candidates must provide a ‘convention de stage’ signed by their university or an alternative volunteer agreement.
  • 12 days’ paid holiday and 12 days’ RTT leave.
  • Internship to be offered at FIDH Delegation to the European Union.
  • Course dates: April 1, 2024, to October 1, 2024.
  • Duration: 6 months, including teleworking.
