Job Summary:

Join Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFH Kenya), a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to providing decent and affordable housing solutions. We’re seeking a dedicated HR Intern to work closely with our Human Resource Manager, contributing to various HR functions to support our mission of building homes, communities, and hope.

Duration of Internship:

Until 30 June 2024 with possibility of extension based on funding availability.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment Support: Assist in all aspects of recruitment processes, from job advertisements to coordinating interviews and selection procedures.
  • Onboarding Assistance: Support the orientation and onboarding processes for new staff members, ensuring a smooth transition into the organization.
  • Staff Welfare: Provide assistance with staff welfare matters as requested, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Contract Management: Monitor staff contract expirations and end of probation periods, advising relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • HR Documentation: Manage employee records, contracts, and policies, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
  • Data Management: Generate HR data and reports, including leave utilization, to support decision-making processes.
  • Training Coordination: Assist in managing the training calendar and ensuring timely delivery of training sessions.
  • Employee Engagement: Support employee engagement activities and events to promote a positive organizational culture.
  • Benefits Administration: Assist with tasks related to benefits administration, including enrollment, claims, and inquiries.
  • Research and Improvement: Conduct research on HR best practices and contribute ideas for process improvements to enhance HR operations.

Key Performance Measures/Indicators:

  • Timely filling of vacant positions.
  • Effective onboarding of new staff for seamless integration.
  • Efficient management of staff records and documentation.
  • Timely follow-up on HR functions, reporting, and feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources.
  • Registered member of IHRM with good standing.
  • Certified Human Resource Professional Course (CHRP) foundation level.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of HR principles, best practices, and employment laws.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Integrity, honesty, and possession of a Certificate of Good Conduct.

Experience:

  • Not more than 1 year of prior work experience in a fast-paced HR environment.
  • Familiarity with HR procedures and practices.

  • Willingness to uphold Christian principles of HFH Kenya.
  • Ability to work long and odd hours, including weekends.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and integrity.
