SCOPE OF WORK:
Join a mission-driven team as a Finance Intern with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Assist the Finance Manager in crucial financial tasks including payment processing, vendor management, and data entry. This role offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in finance within a renowned humanitarian organization. The position will be based in Louisville, KY, requiring a commitment of at least 10 hours per week during Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters, and 20 hours per week during the summer (June-August).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Confidential Handling: Handle sensitive client information with utmost confidentiality.
- Financial Support: Assist the Finance Manager in staff time and effort reporting, AP/AR processing, and month-end close.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- ERP System Experience: Gain proficiency in using an ERP financial accounting system.
- Workflow Management: Learn to effectively manage multiple workflows across Finance & Operations teams.
- Hands-On Experience: Engage with high-importance items and deliverables, fostering direct communication with both Finance and program staff in a collaborative environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational Background: Junior or Senior level undergraduate students or graduate students pursuing degrees in Business, Finance, Economics, and/or Accounting.
- Key Skills: Attention to detail, multitasking ability, and excellent communication skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive client information confidentially.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfort with Microsoft Office products, basic accounting practices, and willingness to learn new software.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong intercultural communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds.
- Team Player: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adhering to IRC policies.
- Language: Fluency/proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
TRAINING & GUIDANCE:
Interns will receive comprehensive training on IRC programming, client service agreements, and policies. Specific guidance will be provided for interpreters. Flexibility, initiative, and confidentiality are key attributes for success in this role.
