Background
Health Strat is a leading indigenous public health organization in Kenya, specializing in innovative health system solutions. Our focus areas include HIV, TB, RMNCAH/FP, and Non-Communicable Diseases, where we implement donor-funded programs at both national and county levels. We are currently seeking experienced and qualified individuals to join our team as ICT Interns.
About the Project
The Monitoring and Evaluation & Strategic Information Systems (MESIS) project, in collaboration with the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP) and the University of Nairobi, is implemented by Health Strat. This project, supported by a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), aims to enhance strategic information capacity for HIV/AIDS programs in Kenya through monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and data science. Technological innovations in health information systems are a key component of this project.
Position Summary
As an ICT Intern, you will work under the direct supervision of the Senior ICT Officer, serving as the primary point of contact for day-to-day technical support to end users. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the implementation of innovative health information systems and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Senior ICT Officer to complete delegated tasks and duties, including documentation and entry-level system deployment tasks.
- Provide first-line support to end users for PCs, laptops, and tablets (hardware and applications).
- Assist users with network troubleshooting, printer setup, and office application upgrades.
- Interact with networking services, software systems, and applications to resolve technical issues promptly or escalate as necessary, maintaining a log of raised issues.
- Install software on various devices and update user manuals under guidance.
- Support, train, and build the capacity of users on hardware and software, including operating systems.
- Perform data entry, management, and transfer from hard copy to soft copy formats.
- Respond to help desk and service desk requests, following up on request execution and maintaining accurate information within the IS tracking system.
- Conduct hardware diagnostics on computers and maintain partnerships with manufacturers and vendors.
- Assist in ensuring the effective maintenance of day-to-day system operations, including system files management, account maintenance, archiving, backup, recovery, and hardware maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Over 6 months of relevant technical work experience.
- Knowledge of ICT industry operations, hardware, and software.
- Excellent understanding of IT business processes, networking, network equipment, Windows, and Linux platforms.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical users.
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate log information for easy maintenance and access.
- Ability to initiate projects, develop activity plans, monitor progress, and notify supervisors of variances.
