Position Overview: Sr. Director Data Scientist, AI and Automation

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Sr. Director of Data Science and AI to join our growing team. This role is pivotal in crafting and implementing our AI strategy, focusing on Generative AI, Machine Learning, and ensuring data quality with an emphasis on health equity and encounter data. The successful candidate will bridge IT groups and business units to drive AI initiatives that support WellSense’s business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Vision

AI/ML Strategy Development: Contribute to the creation of a comprehensive AI/ML and automation strategy aligned with business objectives.
Vision Execution: Ensure the execution of AI/ML technologies and maintain alignment with industry trends and emerging technologies, including LLMs.
Data Quality Management: Ensure end-to-end data quality for AI/ML applications, focusing on health equity and encounter data.

Leadership and Team Management

Team Leadership: Lead a high-performing team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and automation specialists.
Innovation Culture: Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Collaboration with Business Units

Business Liaison: Serve as a connection point between business units and IT, understanding their needs and challenges.
AI/ML Advocacy: Advocate for the use of AI/ML and automation to enhance operations and achieve business goals.

Technology Development and Implementation

Model Development: Oversee the development, testing, and deployment of AI/ML models and automation solutions.
Technological Advancements: Stay updated with advancements in AI/ML and assess their applicability to the organization.

Data Governance and Quality

Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies to ensure quality, accuracy, and security of data.
Risk Mitigation: Work closely with data management teams to support AI/ML initiatives and mitigate risks.

Regulatory Compliance

Compliance: Ensure AI/ML practices comply with relevant regulations and ethical standards.
Ethical Practices: Stay informed about legal and ethical considerations in AI/ML, advocating for responsible practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Leadership in AI/ML: Demonstrated success in leading AI/ML functions and delivering capabilities.
Healthcare AI Expertise: Experience in creating AI/ML models, including LLMs, within the healthcare sector.
Team Management: Proven ability to lead, grow, and maintain high-performing teams.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Hands-on Execution: Willingness to be hands-on in the execution of the team’s work.
Effective Communication: Strong communication skills, comfortable presenting to junior staff and senior executives.
Cost Estimation Knowledge: Familiarity with cost estimation and budgeting related to cloud management.

Minimum Qualifications

Educational Background: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Experience: 7+ years of experience in AI and machine learning, including rules-based and statistical model development.
Ethical AI Application: Understanding of the ethical application of AI/ML in healthcare.
