Position Overview

As the Chief Migration Health Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and management of Health Assessment and other health programs. Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission and technical supervision of the Sub-Regional Health Assessment Programme Coordinator, you will coordinate with the Regional Migration Health Specialist for the South African region to ensure efficient delivery of health services.

Core Responsibilities

Health Assessment Portfolio

  • Organize and supervise the migration health assessment process, ensuring compliance with technical requirements of resettlement countries.
  • Maintain professional standards of quality and safety in infrastructure and equipment of Health Assessment Program (HAP) premises.
  • Ensure sufficient human resources with necessary qualifications and skills, maintaining a network of external support.
  • Establish client-centered procedures ensuring integrity and high-quality service delivery.
  • Incorporate public health interventions in the HAP context, including surveillance for communicable diseases and outbreak preparedness.
  • Supervise and develop HAP staff, ensuring adherence to IOM Standards of Conduct.

Other Health Activities

  • Integrate health assessment activities into overall migration-related programming.
  • Advise on the link between the Health Assessment Programme and other core MHD program areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in Medicine with preferred specializations.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of relevant professional experience with managerial responsibilities.
  • Continuous clinical experience, preferably in a hospital setting or similar international clinic context.
  • Experience in Migration Health Assessments and health program management.
  • Proficiency in English; working knowledge of Portuguese or French is an advantage.
