The Position

Are you passionate about social and environmental justice? We are seeking a Finance and Operations Specialist to join our dynamic global team. As a proactive, organized, and adaptable individual, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our initiative.

Responsibilities

Operations and Finance

Financial Management:

  • Manage day-to-day financial activities, including accounts payable, expenses reimbursement, grants disbursements, payroll, and bookkeeping.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and budgetary constraints.
  • Monitor accounts and transactions, making payments and reconciling accounts.
  • Liaise with consultants, vendors, and subcontractors on contracting and invoicing matters.

Operational Support:

  • Coordinate administrative tasks with Earth Island Institute, including contracts, payments, and legal compliance.
  • Assist in grant management and partnership coordination.
  • Contribute to the smooth functioning of day-to-day operations, addressing challenges as they arise.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist in month-to-month management accounts and budget preparation.
  • Manage travel arrangements and accommodations for the global team.
  • Contribute to financial reporting to donors.

The Ideal Candidate

Are you a motivated team player with a commitment to social change? Here’s what we’re looking for:

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in operations, preferably in a nonprofit or policy advocacy context.
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, or related discipline.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and a strong aptitude for technology.
  • Fluency in English; other languages are an asset.

Desired:

  • Experience in a global or multinational organization.
  • Familiarity with grant management and fundraising principles.
  • Experience working in the Global South.
  • Proficiency in systems such as Nifty, Sage Intacct, and Excel.
