Introduction:

DanChurchAid (DCA) Kenya is on the lookout for dedicated Kenyan nationals residing in the sub-counties of Lokichoggio and Kibish in Turkana County. We are offering two exciting opportunities for individuals passionate about community development to join us as Community Facilitators. These field-based positions, one stationed in Lokichoggio and the other in Turkana North sub-county, entail extensive travel within Turkana County and report directly to the Project Assistant: Financial Inclusion.

Position Summary:

The selected candidates will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of DCA-led initiatives under the EU-funded project titled ‘Strengthening integrated Peace, Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction for cross-border communities in the Karamoja Cluster’ in Kenya. Primary responsibilities include facilitating financial inclusion activities, conducting community mobilization and organization, providing technical support through training and capacity building, and ensuring effective monitoring and reporting.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

Community Mobilization and Organization:

  • Lead community mobilization efforts in collaboration with local leaders and partner agencies.
  • Develop strong relationships with community leaders to facilitate smooth project implementation.
  • Conduct community awareness and sensitization activities regarding DCA projects.
  • Ensure awareness and access to digital learning platforms for project participants.

Technical Support and Capacity Building:

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to project participants, ensuring completion of business plans and assignments.
  • Identify and address technical capacity gaps among participants.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and VSLA activities.
  • Support in market assessment and identification of focus value chains.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Conduct regular follow-up visits to VSLAs and entrepreneurship participants, offering technical assistance as needed.
  • Track progress of savings groups and businesses, ensuring alignment with set targets.
  • Collect and compile data from savings groups and businesses for monthly reporting.
  • Develop and submit monthly progress reports in a timely manner.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Certificate/Diploma in business, entrepreneurship, social work, or related field.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in conducting financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, or community development training.
  • Proficiency in using adult learning methodologies for training delivery.
  • Experience in mobilizing, training, and monitoring VSLAs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel; skills in digital learning platforms are advantageous.
  • Excellent command of the Ng’aturkana language; good command of English and Swahili.
  • Specific knowledge/experience of Lokichoggio and/or Turkana North is advantageous.
  • Strong facilitation, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel within respective sub-counties for project activities.
